Transport corridors in Africa: How the EU Global Gateway can support just and sustainable economic growth

This HSC roundtable will discuss the importance of international collaboration in developing transport corridors that contribute to sustainable economic growth and a better climate. It will highlight the critical role of better connected and integrated trade corridors for both freight and passenger mobility. The Roundtable will also focus on the role of multilaterals, public development banks and private sector investment in sustainable mobility. It will explore ways how to best prepare and implement Transport Infrastructure Corridors with a specific focus on Africa. One of the most recent infrastructure programs launched at the 2023 Global Gateway Forum is the EU-US supported 1.6 bn USD multinational Lobito Transportation Corridor Africa, which was signed by EU, US, AFDB, African Finance Corporation (AFC), and the host governments of Zambia, Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

It will explore different pathways on how to best prepare and implement Transport Infrastructure initiatives in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia and the Pacific.
