Feedbacks: 3rd MobiliseYourCity Africa Mobility Conference,17-19 September 2019, Yaoundé, Cameroun

 

The 3rd MobiliseYourCity Africa Mobility Conference, held from 17 to 19 September this year in Yaoundé (Cameroon), brought together more than 200 participants. Among these guests were invited 10 African countries and 12 cities of the MobiliseYourCity Partnership, represented by about 40 members of the Africa Community of Practice. Following the first two MobiliseYourCity Africa Mobility Conferences organized in Agadir in 2017 and Abidjan in 2018, the 3rd edition of the MobiliseYourCity Africa Mobility Conference was particularly symbolic for the Partnership.

SAVE THE DATE: 3rd MobiliseYourCity Africa Mobility Conference,17-19 September 2019, Yaoundé, Cameroun

After Agadir in 2017, and Abidjan in 2018, the MobiliseYourCity Partnership is organising, under the auspices of Minister of Housing and Urban Development of Cameroon (MINHDU), the 3rd MobiliseYourCity Africa Mobility Conference from 17-19 September 2019 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The conference is co-funded by funded by the European Commission, ADEME and the AFD.

19 cities and 7 countries in Africa and 15 globally active Institutional and Knowledge Partners are expected to attend the conference. This gathering of various stakeholders, such as national and local governments, private sector, civil society, and development partners in the fields of mobility, urban development, land use planning and project finance, will be an opportunity to network, to debate key issues and to exchange ideas on how to pave the way for more inclusive, low-carbon and liveable cities in Africa.

6th European SUMP Conference, Groningen, 17-19th June

From the 17 to the 19th of June, the MobiliseYourCity Secretariat was in Groningen – a vibrant middle sized-city of the Netherlands – to attend the 6th European SUMP Conference. With 60% of total city’s trips made by bikes, it is unsurprising that this year the focus on the conference was on providing support to sustainable and active cities within the SUMP context, meaning how to make cities more walkable and cycle-friendly.

MobiliseYourCity on Bike Tour : Cycling to the 6th European SUMP Conference in Groningen


MobiliseYourCity Secretariat is biking to Groningen where the 6th European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP) will be held on Monday 17 & Tuesday 18 of June. We have planned to start from Amsterdam on Saturday 15 and to arrive on Sunday 16 in Groningen, just in time for the Groningen Cargo Bike Festival . If you are ready to bike for a 100 km and want to have fun with the MobiliseYourCity Secretariat team along the road, don’t hesitate and join us!

Insight: Our 5th Steering Committee

The Steering Committee welcomed highly valued observers, such as our Network Partners PLATFORMA and ITDP, the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), and Jean Yango as representative of the City of Douala. The Steering Committee gave the occasion to acknowledge the ever-growing presence of the MobiliseYourCity Partnership on the international stage within the field of sustainable urban transition, and to exchange among Partners about its impacts in the global fight against climate change and for a more sustainable future. As the Partnership has been substantially developing in its geographical coverage and provision of technical assistance, the Steering Committee emphasized the importance of further advancing the Partnership´s methodological framework, to consolidate conduct, and to foster take up by all involved Partners. The potential to intensify collaboration and complementarity of activities between our various stakeholders is an essential strength of MobiliseYourCity. The opportunity to further activate long-term dialogue and cooperation between beneficiary cities and countries was a focus topic of discussion.

Joining forces: MobiliseYourCity & UEMI collaborate in trainings and pilot project development

MobiliseYourCity co-hosted an EU side-event at the COP24 in Katowice together with the Wuppertal Institute, UN-Habitat, Öko Institute and Transport & Environment. The event focused on decarbonisation pathways for the transport sector. During the event the critical interlinkages between national and local strategies, policies and investments were discussed and the role of an inclusive policy process was emphasised.

MobiliseYourCity @COP 24

4-13 December 2018, Katowice (Poland)

Organised by the United Nations Framework Conference on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the 24th Conference of Parties (COP24) took place from 3 to 14 December 2018 in Katowice Poland, under the presidency of Poland. MobiliseYourCity Partners contributed to numerous side-events as well as the dedicated Transport Day. A dedicated event on « Enabling Sustainable Urban Mobility » was organised by the Partnership, hosted in the French Pavilion.

Car-free Day in Douala

November 24th, 2018, Douala (Cameroon)

On November 24th, the Urban Community of Douala organised its first car-free day “the Street for All”. This historical day was the achievement of a whole week of intensive work from the Douala Urban Community team as well as from MobiliseYourCity partners who assisted the municipality in the elaboration of its Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP). It was also the occasion to present different scenarios to improve urban mobility in the city and make it more accessible, integrated and sustainable.

8th Africités Summit

20-24 November 2018, Marrakech (Morocco)

The Africités Summit is an important dialogue platform in Africa regarding decentralisation, local governance, and local and territorial communities’ contributions to integration and development for Africa. This year, the theme was « Transition towards sustainable cities and territories, the role of territorial communities in Africa ». MobiliseYourCity contributed to the theme « Urban Mobility Revolution ».

MobiliseYourCity @Rabat to train 13 Maroccan cities to MRV-GHG methods on urban transports

13-15 November, Rabat (Morocco)

On November 13th to 15th, a training session involving 13 Maroccan cities in calculating GHG emissions in urban mobility took place in Rabat (Morocco) in the framework of MobiliseYourCity Partnership. The Marocan Minister of the Interior (DGCL), the MobiliseYourCity Partnership, the French Environment & Energy Management Agency (ADEME) and the consulting company I Care and Consult organised a training session to Maroccan cities committed in the MobiliseYourCity Initiative for a sustainable urban mobility launched during the COP 21.

Euroclima+ engagement in the II Conference of Cities in Santiago de Chile

The « II Conference of the Cities: towards a more safe, affordable and sustainable mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean », organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), was held in October 2018. The Conference brought together the partners of the EUROCLIMA+ Urban Mobility Component, a Latin America regional program related with the MobiliseYourCity Partnership, resulting in a major event on urban mobility and public transport in the region.

MobiliseYourCity @ SSATP annual meeting

2-6 July 2018, Abuja (Nigeria)

On July 2nd, the first day of the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Sub-Sahara Africa Transport Policy Program (SSATP), its Pillar B on Urban Mobility was opened by the pillar lead, Mr. Zemedkun Girma. It started with sessions hosted by the MobiliseYourCity Partnership in cooperation with the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), and ISOCARP. The sessions were attended by over 80 participants, including senior government officials from African countries, representatives from the private sector and multilateral organisations like AfDB, World Bank and UNECA.

After 3 years of preparation of the Partnership and commencement of implementation activities around the globe, MobiliseYourCity has published its first Global Status Report this month. The report provides a comprehensive overview, what drives the Partnership, what we do, and what we target at. It particularly includes an interesting insight into worldwide program implementation of our Partners, such as e.g. our progress in Africa, sector transformation in Asia, a project launch in Eastern Europe, or regional action in Latin America.

MobiliseYourCity 4th Steering Committee

June 13, Brussels (Belgium)

The 4th Steering Committee of the Partnership took place at the MobiliseYourCity Secretariat in Brussels on 13 June, 2018. Representatives of Contributing Partners gathered and exchanged on activities and further strategic directions of the Partnership. 

MobiliseYourCity is delighted to welcome as new Contributing Partners the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW), the Wuppertal Institute as well as – tentatively, subject to submission of remaining documents – the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Furthermore MobiliseYourCity welcomes the following cities as new Beneficiary Partners: Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Bouake and Greater Abidjan (Ivory Coast), Dire Dawa and Hawassa (Ethiopia), and Maputo (Mozambique).

Welcome to our new Chairwoman, Paulina Potemski (MTES)

On June 13th, the MobiliseYourCity Steering Committee took the opportunity to thank Eric Beaume (DEVCO) for his ambitious and successful engagement as its Chairman since its first meeting in the year 2016. The Steering Committee welcomed Paulina Potemski as his successor. Representing the French Ministry for an Ecological and Solidarity-based Transition (MTES) in the Partnership. Paulina is the Coordinator for Global Climate Action in the French Climate Negociation Team and the Deputy Head of Climate and Energy Unit in the ministry.

The MobiliseYourCity Study Tour 2018, co-organised by GIZ TRANSfer and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Low Emissions Development Strategies Global Partnership (LEDS GP) Transport Working Group, was conducted in Singapore between 7-9 May 2018 with 30 participants from 11 countries.

The EU SUMP Conference 2018: Planning for multimodal cities

14-15 May 2018, Nicosia (Cyprus)

The 5th European Conference on Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) took place on 14-15 May in Nicosia, Cyprus. The theme of the 5th edition was « Planning for multimodal cities ». MobiliseYourCity co-organised a session dedicated to urban mobility in Eastern Europe and ran a stand offering vast networking opportunities with partners and participants.

European Development Days: Women and girls at the forefront of sustainable development

The 2018 edition of the EDDs (the EU Commission Flagship event on Sustainable Development) was focused on Women and Development. At this occasion, the MobiliseYourCity team presented the Partnership, and in particular its activities undertaken to ensure equal access for all to sustainable urban mobility.

As a sequel of the conference Climate Chance Summit 2017 in Agadir, Morocco, the MobiliseYourCity Secretariat organised a seminar prior Climate Chance Summit 2018, gathering together members MobiliseYourCity’s Africa Community of Practice. Furthermore, on 29 June, our Contributing Partner CODATU co-hosted a workshop on « Sustainable urban transport in African cities » in collaboration with PPMC (Paris Partnership on Mobility and Climate).
