MobiliseYourCity turns 10: celebrating a decade of impact in 2025

In 2025, MobiliseYourCity proudly marks ten years of driving sustainable urban mobility forward. Throughout the year, we will celebrate a decade of impact in cities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

Established during COP21 in 2015, the Partnership has demonstrated the immense value of sustained cooperation over fragmented initiatives. MobiliseYourCity, in fact, was born from a shared vision: to support cities and national governments in tackling mobility challenges, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering inclusive, low-carbon transport solutions. Over the past ten years, the journey has been far from easy: creating a global partnership of this scale required commitment, deep relationship-building, and continuous learning.

Therefore, the 10th anniversary is not just a celebration of past successes but also a reaffirmation of the power of collaboration. We will celebrate the robust and trusted community we have built thanks to the collective efforts of cities, partners, and stakeholders worldwide.

Over the past ten years, MobiliseYourCity has been instrumental in strengthening urban mobility planning through Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) and National Urban Mobility Policies and Programs (NUMPs). By supporting over 100 cities and 15 countries, the initiative has helped shape policies that lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, enhanced accessibility, and improved transport equity. The Partnership’s work has directly contributed to global climate action, reinforcing commitments to the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the local level.
As we step into our second decade, MobiliseYourCity remains committed to addressing emerging challenges and seizing new opportunities.

New focus areas and a revised strategy to better equip cities
To mark this 10-year anniversary, the MobiliseYourCity Partnership is currently updating its strategy in order to align with evolving urban mobility needs, integrate technological advancements, and scale sustainable solutions. The revised roadmap will guide efforts to enhance collaboration, optimize policy frameworks, and accelerate the transition toward cleaner, more efficient transport systems. To ensure continued impact, we will define focus topics on a yearly basis. This year’s focus topics will include:

  • Urban Logistics & Freight: According to the International Energy Agency, freight currently accounts for approximately 8% of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Given the critical role of freight and logistics in the Global South, MobiliseYourCity is deepening its understanding of urban logistics systems, to equip cities with sustainable logistics strategies.
  • Urban Nodes Projects & AFD-Supported Pilots: Expanding projects that enhance mobility infrastructure and resilience in key urban hubs.
  • Private Sector Engagement: Acknowledging the crucial role of the private sector in scaling up sustainable transport solutions, MobiliseYourCity established a working group to engage actively with industry stakeholders.
  • Paratransit Decarbonisation: Addressing emissions from informal transport networks is a key priority. New research and policy recommendations will support cities in transitioning paratransit systems toward low-carbon alternatives.

To equip cities with the knowledge and tools needed for transformative urban mobility, MobiliseYourCity is launching a series of new or updated publications in 2025. These resources will focus – among other topics- on governance, paratransit decarbonisation, climate change adaptation, gender, reflecting the MobiliseYourCity’s Partnership ability to work in an agile way and adapt to new needs.

Sustaining Momentum: Raising Ambition in Urban Mobility at defining global events
As MobiliseYourCity celebrates its 10-year journey, we reaffirm our dedication to advancing sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban mobility. Through continued collaboration with cities, national governments, private sector partners, and international organizations, the Partnership is poised to drive transformative change in the decade ahead.

In 2025, we will actively take part in key global events, including Transforming Transportation, the Hamburg Sustainability Conference, the UITP SUMMIT, and COP30, to celebrate the achievements of the last decade, and most of all, engage with stakeholders to further our mission.

As urban and climate challenges across the world are becoming increasingly pressing, the MobiliseYourCity Partnership is determined to raise ambitions to help more and more cities face those with the right resources.
