MobiliseYourCity's 2024 Training Program: Equipping Cities for Sustainable Mobility

Throughout 2024, MobiliseYourCity solidified its role as a leading force in sustainable urban mobility capacity building by significantly expanding its training and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Reaching over 830 individuals, a substantial increase from the previous year, the program offered a diverse array of online and in-person events designed to empower cities and stakeholders with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of modern urban mobility challenges.

A key aspect of MobiliseYourCity's approach was the delivery of 20 webinars covering a wide spectrum of critical topics. These webinars, offered in English, French, and Spanish, ensured accessibility for a global audience. The thematic areas explored through these webinars included:

• Climate Change Adaptation: Recognizing the increasing vulnerability of urban transport systems to climate change impacts, MobiliseYourCity developed a dedicated webinar series focused on climate adaptation strategies. This series equipped 104 participants with theoretical insights and practical tools to integrate resilience into their urban mobility planning processes.
• Communication Strategy Development: Understanding the importance of effective stakeholder engagement, MobiliseYourCity conducted workshops that provided a structured approach to designing communication strategies for urban mobility projects. Participants gained valuable skills in aligning messaging with organisational goals and tailoring communication to specific audiences.
• Paratransit Reform: Acknowledging the critical role of paratransit systems, particularly in the Global South, MobiliseYourCity launched a three-part webinar series dedicated to paratransit reform. This series provided an overview of the challenges and opportunities associated with paratransit systems and offered practical guidance on integrating these systems into broader sustainable mobility frameworks. The series also incorporated hands-on workshops utilising the updated MobiliseYourCity Paratransit Toolkit, a valuable resource for policymakers and practitioners seeking to improve paratransit service quality and sustainability.

Beyond these core thematic areas, MobiliseYourCity also collaborated with partner organisations to deliver specialised training sessions tailored to specific regional contexts. Notable examples include:

• Road Safety in Turkey: A collaborative webinar series developed in partnership with EUROCLIMA addressing pressing road safety challenges and exploring potential solutions applicable to the Turkish context.
• SUMPs in Asia: Recognizing the unique mobility dynamics of Asian cities, MobiliseYourCity conducted training sessions focused on sustainable urban planning and transport policies specifically relevant to the Asian region.

Complementing its online training program, MobiliseYourCity also organised a landmark in-person event in Kigali, Rwanda, focused on bus electrification in Africa. Co-organized with several partners, including GIZ, VREF, and TUMI, this regional exchange brought together decision-makers, researchers, and industry experts to explore strategies for modernising Africa's minibus sector through electrification. The event underscored the importance of linking technological advancements with inclusive and sustainable transport strategies, building upon MobiliseYourCity's ongoing work in paratransit reform.
