Prototype for Open-Source Transport Data Commons launched Increasing accessibility and availability of high-quality transport data

Transport Data Commons

“If you cannot measure it, you cannot improve it!”

This famous quote by Lord Kelvin (1824-1907) reflects the central principle for achieving sustainable mobility, and subsequently, the SDGs and the Paris Agreement. However, in most low- and middle-income countries, transport data is difficult to access with low quality of data or the data is not even collected at all.

With a prototype up and running to demonstrate the vision, an effective organisational structure and initial seed funding from Germany and the UK, the Transport Data Commons is ready to move into full operation and attract more funding in its second year. 30 organisations support the idea of a one-stop-shop for transport data and management to enable transport decarbonisation and sustainable mobility.
