The Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) promotes the integration of sustainable transport in global policies on sustainable development and climate change and leveraging action in support of the implementation of the global policies. SLoCaT consists of a multi-stakeholder partnership of over 90 organizations, which is supported by the SLoCaT Foundation.

SLoCaT Partnership

The SLoCaT Partnership on Sustainable Transport is a multi-stakeholder partnership of over 90 organizations (representing UN organizations, Multilateral and Bilateral development organizations, NGOs and Foundations, Academe and the Business Sector).

The thematic scope of the Partnership is land transport in developing countries, including freight and passenger transport. Both motorized and non-motorized transport are included. The policies proposed by SLoCaT are universal but the geographical scope of the Partnership is mainly for developing countries. The Partnership’s current focus is Asia, Latin America and Africa.

SLoCaT Foundation

The SLoCaT Foundation (officially “Stichting Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport (SLoCaT) Foundation” was established in July 2014 in The Hague, the Netherlands to enable, facilitate and support the SLoCaT Partnership in promoting sustainable, low carbon transport.

SLoCaT Work Program

The activities of the SLoCaT Partnership are guided by the SLoCaT Work Program.

The Work Program is developed by the SLoCaT Secretariat based on consultations with members of the Partnership. Following review by the SLoCaT Foundation Board, the Work Program is presented for discussion and sign-off at the Annual Meeting of the SLoCaT Partnership in January. The SLoCaT Foundation Board then approves a budget to implement the agreed upon Work Program.

SLoCaT Secretariat

The SLoCaT Secretariat is the administrative body of SLoCaT, overseen by the Board of the SLoCaT Foundation. The SLoCaT Secretariat services both the SLoCaT Partnership and the SLoCaT Foundation, which is registered in the Netherlands. The SLoCaT Secretariat team is based across different continents.
